Health & Social Care Triple Vocational A Level (BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma)

Course Description

This is an in depth course for students who wish to progress into a career within health and social care. The course will enable you to develop both the knowledge and the practical skills required for working in these sectors and will also provide transferable knowledge and skills that prepare you for progression to university. Some of the transferable skills that are valued include the ability to: learn independently, research actively and methodically, deliver presentations and be an active group member. This course is ideal for progression into Nursing, Midwifery or Social Care.

Entry Requirements

Students will be expected to have five GCSEs at grade 9-4, or a Merit in a relevant vocational Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent). In addition, students will need a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a minimum grade 3 in Mathematics. This is a vocational course which requires a professional attitude.

Course Content

This qualification has been designed to be a full time, two year study programme; it is an in-depth study of the health and social care sector and is equivalent to three A Levels and supports progression to health and social care related degrees. The content of the qualification incorporates topics relevant across the health and social care sector including; Human Lifespan Development; Working in Health and Social Care; Anatomy and Physiology; Enquiries into Current Research; Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs; Work Experience; Principles of Safe Practice and Promoting Public Health.

Assessment

Assessment consists of a mixture of internally assessed units (coursework), work placement practice and four externally assessed units (examination and controlled assessments).

Enrichment and Work Experience

Work placement will support your coursework and by the end of the second year, you will have achieved a minimum of 100 hours in a variety of health and social care settings. As part of enrichment, you will have the opportunity to participate with Medical Mavericks, visit a range of universities and have guest speakers that work in the health and social care sector.

Additional Information

A visit to the Trafford Centre is compulsory as part of an assignment to carry out a risk assessment and costs will be met by the College.  Essential additional cost for the course are: DBS (£56), visit to Edge Hill University is part of the enrichment programme to gain an insight to the campus and attend subject specific presentations and will cost approximately £10.00.
