  Overview

This qualification will prepare you for a role in manufacturing engineering, for example a manufacturing engineering technician or welding operative. This course is suitable if you are wanting to gain strong core knowledge of manufacturing engineering.

Achieving this qualification could lead to employment opportunities for you as a:

  • measurement and control technician

You will gain relevant skills and knowledge in areas such as computer-aided design, modern manufacturing systems, additive manufacturing, machining and electronics.

You will study the following units:

  • Engineering Health and Safety
  • Engineering Principles
  • Principles of mechanical manufacturing engineering
  • Machining materials by turning
  • Machining materials by milling
  • Produce drawings using CAD

Entry to this course requires 4 GCSEs at a minimum grade 4 or C or above including GCSE English Language, Maths and a Science subject (ideally Physics).

Please note that safety boots and a suitable overall will be required for the practical workshop sessions.  All other personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied.  Further details will be supplied during the induction process.

Assessment includes online exams, short answers exams and practical assessments.

Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies.

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study, apprenticeships or employment in the Engineering sector. Careers in this sector include:

  • Mechanical engineer
  • Manufacturing engineer
  • Design engineer

If you are 16 to 18 years old you won’t have to pay tuition fees. If you’re 19 or older you may need to pay a fee.
