If you choose to study Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering at Buxton & Leek College you learn a variety of skills essential to the modern mechanical engineer. You will gain a solid foundation in machining and learn how to use Lathes, Milling Machines and Bench Fitting Techniques. Additionally, you will learn a wide variety of engineering theory and develop your engineering drawing and computer aided drafting skills to a high level.

This one year Level 2 course can be taken as a standalone qualification or as part of a two year study programme designed to equip learners with a broad base of engineering skills including welding, fabrication, bench fitting, computer aided design, centre lathe turning, milling and engineering theory.

Students will have plenty of hands on experience at our purpose built facility and small class sizes mean that each students benefits from plenty of one on one support.

5 GCSE’s at grade D/3 or above including Maths and English or Level 1 Engineering

Practical Assessments, Coursework Portfolio and Online Assessments.

A variety of work placement opportunities from across the region.

On completion of the course students may wish to complete their broad-base engineering training by completing the Level 2 Welding & Fabrication qualification.

Students who show a strong aptitude in the maths and machining aspects of the course may be invited to take part in the Level 3 Advanced Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering qualification.

Students wishing to follow a career at technician/operator level may choose to pursue a Level 2 Apprenticeship following the completion of this course.
