About the course
Aged 16-19 and want to study science in the context of its practical implications in society, nature and industry? This course offers a mixture of hands-on work, industry visits and study in the theory of science. It will allow you to progress to a wide range of advanced degrees, particularly in the sciences.
What next
You will need grade 4 in GCSE English & Maths and grade 4 in two GCSE Sciences. Alternatively, you can have a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (at Merit or above), with English and Maths as part of a Functional Skills module.
Applicants will also need a good reference from a school or employer. You will complete an interview and assessment prior to enrolment.
Overseas applicants have to achieve a Level 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill).
You will study modules including Chemical Periodicity; Biomedical Science ; Genetics; Physiology; Microbiology and more. You will also visit places of scientific interest to learn about the history of science, and visit working scientific facilities to see how theory is turned into practice.
Assessment is continuous and is based on practical laboratory work and assignments to demonstrate your understanding. There is no final exam.
In addition to progressing to a full degree in Applied Science or related field, you can also begin to explore junior roles in the fields of Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences.
