The BTEC Extended Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career.
You will be studying an array of subjects to cover both business and design elements. You will explore creative solutions to complex problems, to meet the needs of real live companies. Unleash the potential in software such as Microsoft Office 2010, Flash, Photoshop, plus many more industry standard packages. Includes business, web, animation and games programming.
The use of IT is constantly changing and this qualification is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills in the growing applications of digital technology. This include programming, web design and mobile apps. The range of units provides variety and a suitable foundation for employment in the digital industry to enable learners to take their first steps into employment or as a basis for further study up to university level.
This qualification attracts the full range of appropriate UCAS points and has enabled many of our students to successfully progress to higher education.

At Chelmsford College we are dedicated to
helping all our learners achieve their ambitions and we acknowledge that in order to do well, some of our learners may need extra support in maths and/or English.
Please note that individual Level 2 literacy and numeracy may not be equivalent to a full GCSE qualification. We provide specialist teaching as a compulsory part of the study programme for all learners who have not achieved a grade C at GCSE in these subjects and we all take maths and English seriously.

Method of Assessment
All units are assessed through coursework and graded an overall grade for the qualification awarded. This course is currently under review and future courses could include externally assessed units.
BTEC Extended Diplomas are valued by employers and Higher Education (universities and colleges). Students go into careers in many ICT related disciplines as technicians and technical support and progress to professional status in their chosen field.
if you want to get a job straight away you could get a junior post working in areas such as IT Support/Helpdesk, Business Systems, eCommerce, Management Information Systems, Database Management. If you decide to go to university or college you could take a degree or a BTEC Higher National in subjects such as Computing, eCommerce, Web Design, Computer Games Design and Networks.
