The Travel & Tourism with Cabin Crew study programme is designed to equip you with the advanced knowledge and work ready skills needed to progress onto a university course or start a successful career in the sector. The qualification is tailored to the needs and interests of people aspiring to work in a Travel and Tourism or Cabin Crew career. It consists of a wide variety of specialist areas such as: marketing, conference and events, holiday resorts, whilst providing an introduction to the airline industry and Cabin crew role of the aviation environment. This programme will provide you with a professionally recognised and creative qualification that aims to increase confidence and higher order thinking skills to work towards careers in event planning, tour operations, holiday resorts, travel agents, airlines and many more, or university foundation qualifications.

Study Overview

During this 2-year programme of study you will cover modules on destination and tourism; knowledge promotion and events activities; travel agency and service industry skills; work experience and professional development; holiday resorts, tours and performance; roles and responsibilities in airlines.

In Year 1 you will study the following units:

  • Worldwide Travel and Tourism Destinations (exam based assessment)
  • Travel and Tourism Destinations - England (exam based assessment)
  • Tourism in the UK
  • Principles of Marketing for Travel and Tourism 
  • Package Holidays
  • Foreign Exchange
  • Special Interest Holidays and Independent Travel
  • Ancillary Sales and Services
  • Work Placement in Travel and Tourism

In Year 2 you will study the following units:

  • Overseas Representatives
  • Resort Representatives
  • Planning and Delivering Guided Tours
  • Developing an Entertainment Programme in Travel and Tourism
  • Introduction to Cabin Crew
  • Airline Health, Safety and Security
  • Worldwide Adventure Tourism
  • Conference and Events
  • Developing People in Travel and Tourism

Work Experience: The World Travel Market with REED Exhibitions
The World Travel Market is the leading exhibition for the travel industry held every year in November at London’s ExCel Centre over 3 days. The event is attended by global travel organisations that display and promote their products in an environment where the world’s travel trade meet to network, negotiate and conduct business.

Learners participate at the World Travel Market, in work placements as part of the Travel & Tourism programme, undertaking the ‘Event Team’ roles:

  • Providing excellent customer service.
  • Dealing with exhibitors.
  • Answering press and visitor queries.
  • Guiding visitors within the ExCeL.
  • Handing out important event merchandise.

This is a great opportunity to gain excellent independent skills and to work as a team within the busy environment. This experience is hard work with long hours but it is extremely worthwhile for your CV and for industry relevant experience.

The work placement information:

  • Training days to be attended on the weekend
  • Coach transport to London ExCeL provided (£80 due at enrolment)
  • A valid UK bank account and passport required
  • A fleece for uniform provided during the event
  • Refreshments provided everyday

Progression and Employment Opportunities

This Diploma is valued by employers, trainers and universities. You can progress to a higher education qualification in Travel and Tourism or other related subjects. You can also explore careers or work based training in a related sector.

Maths and English – Take it Seriously!

At Chelmsford College we are dedicated to helping all our learners achieve their ambitions and we acknowledge that in order to do well, some of our learners may need extra support in maths and/or English. Please note that individual Level 2 literacy and numeracy may not be equivalent to a full GCSE qualification.

We provide specialist teaching as a compulsory part of the study programme for all learners who have not achieved a grade 4 at GCSE in these subjects and we all take maths and English seriously.
