Summary

This course will develop your knowledge of the core engineering subjects, as well as giving you the chance to specialise in mechanical engineering. You will learn how engineering businesses operate and the factors that affect them and the wider industry. You will also have the chance to develop and apply the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) in a range of engineering projects. Units include: Health and Safety, Communications for technicians, Project, Mathematics for engineering technician, Mechanical principles.

This Engineering diploma provides students with the equivalent of three AS levels and combined with a further year of study at extended diploma level provides the required UCAS credits to progress to university studying Engineering.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at A*-C or 9-5 Including English, Maths - Higher Paper - and Science or completion of Engineering Diploma Level 2.

Objective

This is an ideal course for you if you want to develop your engineering skills and explore your opportunities within this innovation-led industry. It is equivalent to two A Levels. The course is also suitable for someone who wants to study engineering at University, or for someone who wants to become a higher technician in this sector.

Progression

After successfully completing this programme, you could move up to a Degree, Foundation Degree or HNC/HND programme, or you could move on to an Advanced Apprenticeship with an employer, or to employment with another type of training.

Career Progression

The Level 3 Diploma is designed to keep your options open. Throughout the course you will have contact with employers and find out about the huge range of job roles available. You could seek work in a variety of different engineering settings ranging from maintenance to design and development.

Fees

If you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free.
