Careers Advisor - Gillian Hales

East Durham College’s Careers Advisor, Gillian Hales, is a Registered Career Development Professional with the Career Development Institute. Gillian is available to talk to about any concerns or questions you might have about your career and can provide impartial advice and guidance on potential career routes, degrees at university, finding part-time work while at college, financial support and other issues relating to your career. As part of her membership she follows a code of ethics and completes in excess of 25 hours continuous professional development each year.

What Ofsted Has To Say About Our Careers Service

Following an inspection in January 2018, Ofsted had the following to say about East Durham College's careers service:

Learners benefit from effective careers education, information, advice and guidance which are provided by well-qualified college staff. Leaders have a clear strategy and focus to provide a wide and comprehensive range of activities and events which raise the aspirations of learners. A very high proportion of learners go on to further study or gain employment on completion of their programmes.

It can be a daunting time preparing for your interview to get to uni - that's why we're on hand to help! Any questions, or any concerns you have can be addressed by our friendly careers advisors. Just pop in to see us whenever we're available.

UNISTATS

Unistats is the official website for comparing UK higher education course data. It Includes official data for undergraduate courses on each university and college's satisfaction scores in the National Student Survey, jobs and salaries after study and other key information for prospective students.

Unifrog

The college also subscribe to unifrog which is a great website tool to help our students to choose the best universities and apprenticeships for them. Please speak to your Progression Coach or our Careers Advisor for your login.

National Careers Service

The National Careers Service website provides careers advice and information on a wide range of jobs, training course resources and funding.

Discover possible careers with Pathways

Pathways shows possible careers in your area of interest with details on salary, predicted employment in your region and has videos of real people talking about doing that job.

Labour Market Information (LMI)

LMI can help young people and their parents/carers to understand the salaries and promotion opportunities for different jobs, the volume and location of vacancies across different sectors. Government funds high a quality LMI service called LMI for All to help with your careers research.

The college also subscribes to Careers Explorer, an online tool designed to help you research your education and career options. You can find information on jobs right here in the region, including links to actual job vacancies and potential earnings.

Careerometer

The Careerometer tool can also be used to explore and compare key information about different occupations to help you in the the process of identifying potential careers you may wish to pursue.

Advice on career options after A level/Level 3 Vocational Courses. Tips on school leaver schemes and higher apprenticeships. Help making the right uni choice. Take a look!
