Successful completion will allow you to move onto a main stream level 1 course in the specialist trade you desire.

Overview of the course: 

The main focus of the programme is to develop practical tool skills and enhance basic underpinning knowledge of relevant industrial processes and techniques. These will be delivered in a workshop environment for practical sessions and classroom based for theory sessions. Also incorporated into the study programme will be Functional Skills (Maths & English), Tutorial, Work Experience, Academic Tutorial and relevant trips & guest visits.

Entry requirements: 

A general interest in construction, to be working at Entry Level 3 for both Maths and English.

Topics: 

The qualification consists of 1 core and 10 'trade specific' units:

• Introduction to health and safety in construction

• Tiling a plain wall

• Construction half brick walling

• Preparing background surfaces and applying render

• Tiling floor

• Construct block walling

• Construct cavity walls

• Construct brick walling

How is the course assessed?: 

The programme is assessed by practical test pieces for each unit.

Further study options after this course: 

Successful completion will allow progression onto a Level 1 programme in a specialist trade of your choice the following academic year.

Fees: 

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19+ years old you may be required to pay fees for your course, however if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group or other work related benefit and you are undertaking this qualification to find work, your fees may be paid by the Government.

Learners under 25 years old with a statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan will not pay fees.

C&G run their own bursary programme to help people who are financially unable to complete one of their qualifications. They award bursaries twice a year for people who wish to study for a City & Guilds qualification, but lack the funds.
