At East Durham College, we have a dedicated engineering department with highly-experienced staff who have many years of industrial engineering experience. Our staff are dedicated to giving you the training, skills and knowledge you'll need to succeed in engineering, helping to kickstart your career and give you the things employers are looking for when your time at college comes to an end.

About Our Engineering Courses

Engineering is a very hands-on, very practical profession. The work of an engineer also has a scientific and mathematical background too; you can expect to take part in practical sessions where you may actually be creating objects, or you may take part in classroom-based, theoretical environments where you learn the science behind engineering, as well as how to design, plan and actually create objects from scratch.

Engineering is not an easy discipline to study, but it was an extremely rewarding one. If you work hard and put in the effort, you'll find yourself rapidly gaining new skills and knowledge which you'll put into practical use throughout your course and - at a later date - as part of your working life.

We offer several different engineering courses at East Durham College. About the East Durham College Technical Academy

Our engineering courses are based at The Technical Academy.

This state-of-the-art facility, which is based on the South West Industrial Estate in Peterlee, is a 37,000 square foot space with vast, open-plan workshop area, training classrooms, IT suite, canteen and social space.

The engineering department includes the highest standards of equipment and facilities; the college has recently spent over £100k on the department and installed a full suite of Lathes, a Vertical Milling Machine and industry-standard welding equipment, all of which you'll use during your course.
