Covid-19 Restrictions

Due to the restrictions of the pandemic and not being able to welcome visitors to the academy, we are unable to engage with employers in our usual way.  This has also led to the postponement of a number of activities that usually take place throughout the academic year.  We are engaging virtually wherever possible and will keep you up to date through our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Careers guidance and access for education and training providers

Our careers curriculum at Haughton Academy is designed to enable pupils to gain a wide variety of knowledge so that they are able to make informed choices when leaving school and throughout their future career paths.

Haughton Academy works with a range of colleges, sixth forms, apprenticeship providers, universities and employers to ensure pupils are given a well-rounded knowledge of everything that is available to them in the future.

We endeavour to raise the aspirations of all our pupils, whilst creating strong links between the classroom and the world of work.  Pupils are encouraged to identify and acknowledge their own learning styles, skills and strengths through a range of activities and events, both in and out of school, from year 7 onwards, helping to develop employability skills and broaden horizons from an early age.

Our career guidance strategy follows the Gatsby benchmarks of good career guidance and we are currently working towards our Investors in Careers accreditation.

The Government’s careers strategy aims to achieve a world-class careers system and to aid schools in meeting these requirements they advise that the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s Benchmarks be utilised to develop and improve careers provision.

The Benchmarks define all the elements of an excellent careers programme, based on the best national and international research.

Please click on the link below for the Benchmarks and the criteria that schools should be using in order to meet each Benchmark. You will also find information about how Haughton Academy are meeting the Benchmarks for each year group.
