Overview

You will develop skills and knowledge to enable you to progress to a more advanced course or into employment with training in the Travel and Tourism industry. The travel and tourism industry offers a wide range of careers from cabin crew to customer service assistant and offer the chance to work abroad.

This course is ideal if you are enthusiastic, dynamic and passionate about travel and tourism. If you want to develop your self-confidence and organisational skills in order to meet challenges head on, then get on board!

The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate is equivalent to three GCSEs at 4-9.

The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate is assessed and taught using a variety of methods including:

  • Reports
  • Interviews and discussions
  • Making presentations
  • Group projects
  • Practical assessment
  • Two external exams

Some of the work may require doing your own research using the Internet and books. Lectures take place in a classroom at Victoria House. A comprehensive programme of trips/visits is organised and guests from the industry will attend sessions to support your learning.
The majority of your work will be assessed by coursework and assignments, however there are also two externally assessed units (exams).
Students who have not achieved Level 4 in English or Maths will be expected to continue towards achieving this whilst on the course.

BTEC Level 2 Travel and Tourism is a one year, full time course and is examined by Edexcel.

Entry Requirements

Standard entry requirements are needed for a Level 2 course. GCSEs fivegrade 3 or above including English and Maths. You will also be interviewed by a member of the travel and tourism team.

Facilities

You will have access to a number of learning resource centres, including text books and computer access. There are cafes in the Hele Building and at Victoria House. You may also attend sessions at the Future Skills Centre at Exeter Airport for some of your units of work.
