I chose to study Carpentry because every day is different on site. I was always good at it at school and enjoyed hands-on work. When I first came here I found it very welcoming and the facilities were 10 times better than at School.

Everyone in the class is supportive. The lecturers make sure that there is always a good atmosphere. They clearly enjoy their job and take an interest in you. Our lecturer doesn’t take things in a set order – he chooses tasks for you personally based on your ability and where you are in your learning.

The fact that facilities are so good means I can do more practical work. We use a lot of power tools and the SDS drill which is heavy duty.

Everyone tries to do something different and has their own take on their projects. I’ve gained so many skills and more knowledge about everything in my course – we’ve learned a whole range about carpentry. I’ve become much more confident and my family say I’ve come out of my shell.
