Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accountancy introduces more comprehensive bookkeeping and accounting topics. In the Level 3 course, you will learn how to make adjustments such as working with partial information, preparing an extended trial balance, error correction, VAT returns, cost reporting, financial statements preparation and single Accounts of merchants and corporations.

What does it cover?

In this Level 3 qualification, students will specialise in complex accounting disciplines, including financial accounting, advanced bookkeeping and final accounts.

Requirements

You must pass the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. You may be eligible if you work in an Intermediate Accounts role before enrolling in this course or if you have obtained the relevant A Levels.

Syllabus

You will understand management accounting and the importance, purpose and techniques required to deal with the VAT and payroll process. You will learn how to create financial statements for sole proprietorships and partnerships at this level. You will also understand the in/out of the business environment and the need for organisational.

You will learn how to apply the principles of modern double entry book capping, acquisition and disposal of non-existent assets. You will prepare depreciation calculations, term adjustments and an extended trial balance. You will also learn to create final accounts for individual merchants and partnerships and how to deal with incomplete records.

You will understand the purpose and use of management accounting and learn the cost and spreadsheet techniques required for companies and the principles behind cash management. You will also monitor budget changes and use management accounting techniques to assist in short-term decision-making.

You will review and enforce VAT legislation requirements, calculate VAT, review and verify Making Tax Digital (MTD) VAT returns, understand payroll rules, and make mistakes. We will study the implications of late filing and payment and how to report VAT information.

You will learn about the different types of businesses, structures, governance, the legal framework in which they operate and the effects of the micro and macroeconomic environment. How long does it take to complete?

It will usually take a year to complete this qualification, depending on the study method and the course timetable. Most likely to be completed in six months.

Exams

You must book your exam as soon as you plan to finish your course. To avoid disappointment, we recommend booking early as this may interfere with your study plans. Note that you still need to book your exams separately. All reviews at this stage are computer-based exams (CBE).

You will be awarded (pass, merit, or distinction) based on your performance. Unit assessments are not graded individually, but the scores obtained in all examinations contribute to your overall grade eligibility.

How and where to study

Fees

National Skills Fund

The National Skills Fund approves this qualification. If you live in England, are 19 years of age or older and have not previously completed Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for full funding.

Training provider fee

£1500 - £3000

This fee covers your tuition and is paid directly to your training provider.

Standard eligibility fee

The standard eligibility fee includes four assessment fees at £49 per assessment and a Synoptic assessment fee of £54, for a total of £250. You must pay a diagnostic fee to your training provider or diagnostic location.

AAT membership fee

To study this qualification, you need to register for AAT Student Membership. You will need to sit for an assessment and access study support resources to help you succeed.

Employer Support

If you have a relevant job or already working in a relevant field and want to improve your education, your employer can fund your tuition fees. You need to talk to them to see if you are eligible and if they are willing to support the cost.

Payment plans

AAT Level 3 Diploma is covered with our interest-free payment plan. You must spend a minimum of £500 on qualifying for a payment plan. This allows you to expand the cost of your tuition for up to 12 months at no extra cost.

Entry requirements

Students can start with any qualification based on current skills and experience. Most of the students will begin at the foundation level. For the best chance of success, we suggest that students start their education with good English and Maths. This qualification can be a fast track for an AAT Advanced Diplomas in Accounting.

Exception

Those who can provide proof of previous, relevant qualification from an external awarding body may not be required to sit for all AAT reviews.

We believe you will not need to duplicate the work if you have already studied qualification units featuring the same content. This means students can quickly track the most appropriate AAT qualification.

Q.1. Is AAT level equal to level 3?

You are exempt from degree courses at more than 30 UK universities with AAT eligibility. AAT qualification is equivalent to an Accounting Technician level qualification. AAT level 2 is equal to GCSE, level 3 is two A levels and level 4 is equivalent to QCF level 4 qualification.

Q.2. Can I study AAT Level 3 by myself?
