Course Overview

This course provides the ideal introduction to the construction industry if you are not sure about which route to follow. You will gain an understanding and some practical experience of the variety of trades in the construction industry, selected from the following:

  • Health and safety
  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry and joinery
  • Painting and decorating
  • Wall and floor tiling
  • Plumbing and electrical
  • Appropriate supporting qualifications to broaden your skill set and meet the needs of the community
  • Skills activities
  • English and maths

Entry Requirements

You need to have a desire to work in the construction industry. Full commitment to attendance is required. Respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation are the essential qualities we expect to see in all our learners.

Subject to interview based on GCSEs, equivalent qualifications and own merit.

All learners will need to undertake an industry assessment to help determine the most appropriate course.

Course Delivery

You will be continually assessed and there is an expectation that you will continue your studies and coursework during your own time.

The course is delivered by both practical sessions with excellent workshop facilities and theory lessons to underpin the knowledge learnt in the practical sessions. You will be assessed via practical assignments, written assignments and multiple choice unit end tests.

Elements of this course can be delivered through the medium of Welsh.

Progression Opportunities

This qualification will enable and/or prepare you to progress in your chosen trade as a trainee or apprentice or onto further study.

Additional Information

All students are required to supply the necessary equipment to enable them to commence / complete classroom and workshop activities. These include: stationary; overalls; boots; safety glasses.
