What will I be doing?
This specification is divided into a total of 5 units: 2 AS and 3 A Level units.
The AS Level Biology course consists of:
- Biology 1: Basic biochemistry and cell organisation
- Biology 2: Biodiversity and physiology of body systems
The A Level Biology course consists of:
- Biology 3: Energy, homeostasis and the environment
- Biology 4: Variation, inheritance and options
- Biology 5: Practical examination
Units 1, 2, 3 and 4 are assessed by written tests marked by the examination board. Unit 5 includes experimental work set in the centre and completed over a 3 month period. This is marked by the Examination Board. You’re also required to submit one microscope drawing, which must show calibration at A Level. Once completed, you’ll achieve:
- AS Level Biology
- A Level Biology
- Skills activities
- English and Maths
What is expected of me?
To enrol, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs, Grade C or above, to include Grade B in Biology or Grade B in both Science and Additional Science, a Grade B in Maths/Maths Numeracy and English Language.
Full commitment to attendance is required, as is respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation. You’ll be continually assessed and there is an expectation that you’ll continue your studies and coursework during your own time.
