The Details

Our Level 1 Maintenance Operations (multitrades) is one of the fastest growing sectors in the South East. You will enjoy learning theory and practical skills needed to provide you with a fantastic range of skills that will prepare you for your career in the construction industry. You will train in modern, fully-equipped workshops, using the same machinery and tools you can expect to use in the workplace. This course is ideal for students who are not sure which trade to go into.

You will study a range of units with topics including: health safety and welfare in construction, principles of building construction, information and communication, completing small scale building repairs, completing small scale painting and decorating repairs, completing small scale plastering repairs, and completing carpentry repair. These modules will help you form a wide range of skills in demand with local employers to improve your chances of gaining employment within the industry.

You will complete written and practical work throughout the year. You will also complete online exams.

Other Important Info

You will need to purchase College overalls, available at a discounted price through our uniform partners. You will also need to purchase protective boots.

All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a Work Placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.

Future Prospects

You could progress into an apprenticeship, into work or a higher level programme to specialise in a particular trade.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade F or above including English or maths at grade 2 or above.
