Moulton College Careers Guidance

All Moulton College students will have access to high quality and impartial Careers Advice during their time with us.

Initial advice and guidance is provided to prospective students at open events and taster days from both Student Services and Tutors with extensive industry knowledge and vocational experience. The College prospectus gives information on career routes for prospective students and their parents/guardians and a School’s Liaison Officer works with local schools to promote college life and opportunities.

Employer engagement is a key component of curriculum planning. Curriculum areas host employer forums and maintain working links with SEMLEP. All of the courses offered at Moulton College are vocational and provide students with access to industry standard facilities. A wide range of activities are embedded into courses and tutorials to ensure that all students become work-ready. These can include:
 
  • External work experience placements
  • In-house work placements in College commercial businesses
  • Visiting speakers from industry
  • Workplace visits
  • Trade show visits
  • Entry into regional and national level skills competitions
  • Careers fairs
  • Additional industry relevant qualifications
  • Volunteer projects in the local community
  • Commercial projects with local organisations
  • Maths and English qualifications

The Careers Team (including a Careers Lead and a Careers Education and Guidance Officer) book 1:1 appointments with students on request or from referral by tutors. The Careers Officer also works closely with course tutors and pastoral staff to support the delivery of employability and career planning tutorials on subjects which include:

  • Course Progression
  • CVs and Job Applications
  • Interview Skills
  • UCAS Applications
  • Personal Statements
  • Apprenticeships

The Careers Team is based in the Learning Resource Centre, which provides a print and online careers library and additional access to online careers information. The LRC also stocks a range of trade journals that give students access to industry news and job vacancies and provides a jobs board for students which is available on the virtual learning environment.

The College is working towards achieving all eight of the Gatsby Benchmarks for further education. and has links with The Careers and Enterprise Company through an Enterprise Adviser.
