We understand there can be challenging times throughout your course and studies. Below you will find details of all the support we provide to help you achieve your aims.
Our New City College advice, support and guidance team are available during term time. During the summer break and from the 1st August 2020, New City College students going through a tough time can access free online support with Togetherall. Whether you're struggling to sleep, feeling low, stressed or unable to cope, Togetherall can help you get support, take control and feel better.
You will have access to a 24/7 online global community and professional support from trained professionals. Togetherall provides a safe space online to get things off your chest, explore your feelings, get creative and learn how to self-manage your mental health and wellbeing.
On Togetherall, you are totally anonymous to other members in the community, and your personal information is kept secure while you are on the site. The college will not be informed if you've signed up to Togetherall or know of your activity on the service unless they are seriously concerned about your safety.
Most members report feeling better and more able to cope with their workloads as a result of using the service and nearly 65% use Togetherall outside of 9-5pm.

Careers Advice
The Careers Advice team is available to all students at all stages of their college journey.
Our qualified and experienced Careers Advisers are on hand to assist you with making those important decisions about career and course choices. Whether you need support with developing your employability skills, investigating what your future options are when you leave us, we’ll be there to help you through the process. We operate an appointment service and booked appointments are available for more in-depth discussions.

Our Student Welfare Advisor offers you advice, support and information on a wide range of non-academic issues relating to your general welfare and personal development services for students at the College. Learning Zone
The Learning Zone provides drop-in support to students across the college’s entire provision. In the Learning Zone there are Learning Mentors and Tutors to help students improve their study skills and complete their assignments.
It offers:
- Specialist support in all taught subjects and at all levels.
- One-to-one support in agreement with subject tutors.
- GCSE workshops
- Skills assessments.
- An open access drop in space to use a PC and get support with your work
- Small group - reading, writing and spelling workshops
The following resources are available to students in the Learning Zone:
- Apple Macs
- Assistive technology for students with additional learning needs including:
- Ginger – helps with proof reading.
- Dragon Naturally Speaking – voice recognition software. Particularly suitable for students with dyslexia.
- Read and Write Gold - reads text aloud to users with literacy needs. Uses word prediction to speed up typing.
- Zoomtext - for partially sighted users
- MindView – helps you planning your work
- Lexia - develops your reading skills.
- Two adjustable desks, one magnifying lens, large font keyboards, several headphones, etc
- Course related textbooks
- ESOL specific grammar books and resources, and a database of online interactive activities
- Dictionaries and thesauruses

Mental Health Support
We offer practical on course support for students experiencing mental health difficulties to support success.
This support can include;
- A confidential chat with a specialist mental health adviser
- Exploring reasonable adjustments
- Regular support throughout their learning journey
- Liaising and consulting with relevant College staff/external agencies
- Information and access to local mental health services
- Developing strategies to manage the demands of College life

The College Counselling Services is here to help you address personal or emotional problems that get in the way of realising your full academic and personal potential. The service offers free and confidential sessions to all students.
