Course overview
This course will provide you with basic skills and knowledge to continue your learning in bricklaying. This will help you develop the high-level skills you will need in the workplace or if you choose to progress to an advanced apprenticeship or higher education course. You will develop advanced practical skills and learn about advanced issues relating to construction including working safely, communication skills and building methods and construction technology to enable you to progress to employment.As part of your study programme here at the College alongside your chosen course you will complete a maths and/or English qualification if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above. (This will be a GCSE for all students with a grade 3).
The study programme will also incorporate a range of work related experience activities to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to further/higher education, employment or an apprenticeship.
What else do I need to know?
As part of your course, you will visit construction companies to find out more about real-life construction in a range of settings. There may also be opportunities to undertake work experience as part of the course.What are the entry requirements?
You'll need a minimum of four or more high grades at
GCSE in subjects relevant to the course you’d like to study, including maths and/or English Language at grade 4 or above. Alternatively, you’ll need a Level 2 Diploma with overall Merit in a relevant subject and maths and English at appropriate levels.

How is it assessed?
You will be assessed by the use of practical assessments and assignments that will form a portfolio of your work. You will also complete practical and theory tests at the end of your training course.
What financial support is on offer?
This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group please contact 01782 254188.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?
Having completed the course, you will be well prepared to move into employment with construction companies, including becoming an advanced apprentice. Here, you would work on site for four days per week but continue your learning at College one day a week. You could also progress to a higher level qualification in construction site management.
