Course Summary:

Computers are widely used in all aspects of business, industry, government, education, leisure and the home. In this increasingly technological age, a study of computer science, and particularly how computers are used in the solution of a variety of problems, is not only valuable to the learners but also essential to the future well-being of the country. If you are interested in learning the science behind how computers work and practical programming, then Computer Science is the course for you.

Entry Requirements:

Maths at grade 5 and English grade 4 are essential. Students who have studied GCSE Computer Science must also achieve a minimum level 5.

Assessment Method:

Two exam papers, one written exam (70%) covering all of the theory work explored during the year and one practical paper involving problem solving, algorithm design and coding (30%).

If you want to do a Computing related degree, the Open University’s Young Applicants in Schools and Colleges Scheme (or YASS for short) enables students in Years 12 and 13 to study a range of undergraduate modules at first-year level alongside their AS and A levels.This is an excellent opportunity to experience the subject at HE, encourages independent learning, builds confidence and will help to make an impression when it comes to applying to traditional universities.Modules currently available include networks, working with information online and digital photography.
