Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Systems Maintenance (City and Guilds) - Full
Time 1 year course
For candidates wanting to develop some of the key skills and understanding in motor vehicle systems. Successful candidates will learn the basic skills needed to apply for an automotive apprenticeship or similar engineering pathway. This qualification could also be used as an ‘interest’ course for a wide range of learners. These qualifications cover a variety of automotive related areas including: vehicle engine systems, lubrication systems, fuel systems, vehicle electrical systems, braking systems, steering and suspension systems.
Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles (City and Guilds) - Full Time 1 year course
This course is for anyone interested in starting or developing a career in the motor industry, whether you want to maintain and repair different types of vehicles, fit and replace parts and tyres.
You do not need any previous experience or need to be in a current work placement. Most of the time these qualifications are taught in a college or with a training provider and learning is by undertaking practical sessions and assessments, but the theory element of the course will require written work.
All units will be assessed using both Theory Exams along with Practical assessments that build up into a portfolio that will need to be completed in full to achieve the qualification.
All units will be subject to formative assessments set as Milestone targets and must be completed throughout the course. These are Mandatory and must be completed.
If you are 16-18 and have not achieved Maths GCSE and English at grades C/4 or above, you will be required to attend Maths and English lessons. Again these are Mandatory and also a requirement to complete the Vocational qualification.

Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Systems Maintenance
Allows candidates to progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications: City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles, this may also lead to employment in the automotive industry.
The Level 1 Automotive qualification could help you get your first job as a tyre fitter. By achieving the higher levels, you could get the skills to start your own tyre fitting service or car valeting business.
Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance& Repair Principles
After completing this course, you will have a qualification that shows employers and
customers you have the skills to work in a range of jobs - perhaps in a specialist
repair workshop or with vehicle fitting specialists.
At Level 2 you have already developed a good foundation of skills and knowledge required
to become a vehicle service technician and are ready to move to the next level. You
could become a Car Valeter, a Light Vehicle/Heavy Vehicle/Motorcycle Service Technician
or a FastFit/Tyre Technician.
At Level 3, you have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge and looking to gain
more responsibility by supervising others, running your own business or moving to a
diagnostic technician level. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of
safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard. You could become
a Light Vehicle/Heavy Vehicle/Motorcycle Diagnostic Technician or a FastFit Supervisor
or run your own business

progression from previous education establishments would be
beneficial.
These courses are specifically designed for learners with a special educational need

No formal qualification are required for this course, you will recieve an offer of a
place subject to passing an assessment;
Full Time GCSE Re-sit Study Course
You will receive an offer of a place on the course subject to passing an
assessment.
Full Time Level 1 Course
English & Maths GCSE Grades E-G/1- 2 or English & Maths Functional Skills Entry
Level 3.
Full Time Level 2 Course
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including English and Maths or a vocational
qualification Level 1 in the chosen subject, plus GCSE grade D/3 in both English and
Maths.
English & Maths Functional Skills Level 1 will be accepted as an alternative to
GCSEs.
Full time Level 3 Course
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A-C/4-9 (including English and Maths) or a vocational
qualification Level 2 in the chosen subject,
English & Maths Functional Skills Level 2 will be accepted as an alternative to
GCSEs in some subject areas.
T Level
Minimum of 5 GCSE passes but English and Maths GCSE must be Grade 5 or
above.
T levels in Science and Healthcare Science will also require a minimum of a grade 5 in a
GCSE Science subject.

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.
