The media industry is continuously evolving and developing in new and innovative ways.

This course offers learners the opportunity to study a diverse range of media topics, including video editing, camera operation, radio production skills and media production. Please note, this course is for the beginner to intermediate students and is suitable for those who have no experience in the field of media production.

Each year, our students have the opportunity to take part in our End of Year Festival to showcase their work. Take a look at our video of the 2019 show, "Arrival".

What I'll learn

You will study a range of media such as video, radio and print and learn skills in audio computer and animation technology on the Digital Media Pathway. The course helps you to build your media knowledge through practical work and projects in preparation both for work and further study.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will gain a Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology. In addition to this, personal effectiveness and professional development units provide time for students to research the music and media industries and define the qualities, qualifications and skills required to find employment. As part of the course, students are required to demonstrate specific literacy, numeracy and ICT skills alongside their main subject studies. These Functional skills will help students with their coursework and also prepare them for further education, life and work.

You could progress to the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology.

How I'll learn

This practical course allows you to develop your skills and knowledge in pre-production, directing, interviewing, camerawork, lighting, sound recording, radio production audio and visual editing. Classes will take place in our specialist computer suites and TV studio using software such as Adobe Premier and Soundtrack Pro.

All our tutors are actively involved in the media industry and will use this up-to-date knowledge to provide you with detailed feedback that will help you to constantly improve your media production skills.

How I'll be assessed

To complete this course, you will be required to use a variety of skills working both in groups and individually. The course is 100% coursework-based, featuring both written and practical assignments. Written assignments include a study of media jobs, an analysis of factual production in the media, a study of a wide range of print techniques, writing a script for a film and an analysis of film audiences.
