If you plan to pursue a career in the motor vehicle industry, specifically working with classic vehicles, then this is the course for you.

According to research by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, there is a need for around 1,000 new apprentices in classic vehicle restoration across the UK.

This course, based at Banbury and Bicester College, in partnership with Bicester Heritage, is designed to give you a broad base of knowledge and experience to prepare you for working within the industry and focuses on developing the particular skills and knowledge required for older ‘classic’ vehicles.

What I'll learn

This qualification contains many units to allow learners the flexibility to develop their knowledge and competence across a range of different disciplines. It also develops the learners' knowledge of the history and heritage of classic vehicles.

It is the first qualification to be included in the new vehicle restoration apprenticeship framework.

Following successful completion of this course, you can go on to an advanced apprenticeship in the industry, or gain employment using your new qualification.

How I'll learn

The qualification has been developed by IMI Awards in conjunction with the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, employers, training providers and the IMI Sector Skills Council.

How I'll be assessed

The course consists of a series of practical assessments, written assessments and online tests.

Entry Requirements

To apply, you need a Level 2 qualification in Motor Vehicle maintenance, preferably in classic vehicle. A genuine interest in vehicle restoration and older cars is beneficial.

Applicants will need to practically demonstrate that they have the practical competence required to work in the classic vehicle industry and the technical knowledge required to support this.

You will be given an initial assessment in English and maths, along with an interview, which you will need to pass before starting the course.
