Modern day engineers need to have practical ability that is
underpinned by a theoretical understanding. On this course,
you will further develop your existing practical skills,
building on them in the workshop by fabricating complex
engineering components. You will also develop knowledge and
skills in health and safety, design, mathematics and CAD
(Computer Aided Design).
Throughout the course you'll have the opportunity to visit an
engineering manufacturing facility to see how they operate
and the types of equipment they're using. We'll also invite
guest speakers from industry and former students that are
now at university, to tell you about their experiences
working in the sector and what opportunities await you.
Our team of lecturers, trainer/assessors and technicians
bring with them decades of experience which you'll benefit
directly from. Our team have experience ranging from
undertaking cutting edge research in academia to being the
Managing Director of a manufacturing engineering company.
A former student of the course, now at university studying a
BEng in Engineering Business Management, commented "If
I had not enjoyed my time studying Manufacturing Engineering
at South & City College so much, I would not be here at
university today. The highlights of university so far have
been the trips to Jaguar Land Rover and Siemens to gain data
for our projects in things like supply chain and logistics
management. It's also been amazing meeting new friends from
all around the world, not forgetting to mention my
internship to Switzerland in the summer. My aim is to work
for Aston Martin because I have worked for JLR, Honda,
Nissan but not Aston Martin."
