About the course

The subject of travel and tourism is wide ranging and includes aspects of customer care and administration, as well as the study of destinations, holidays and attractions.

You will study a range of core mandatory units and specialist units to include: the business of travel and tourism; event organisation; customer service; etc. In all units the emphasis is on the practical application of knowledge and skills.

There are opportunities for course related trips and visits, including a trip arranged by the students as part of their coursework and an optional overseas residential study tour. We encourage students to arrange industry related part time work experience around their studies.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths or a Level 2 at Merit.

Where next?

Successful completion of the course could lead to Higher Education for an HNC/HND, foundation degree or degree, to employment or an apprenticeship in the travel and tourism industry. The travel and tourism industry employs a large proportion of the UK population in a diverse range of activities including those of travel agents and tour operators, in the transport and accommodation sectors and in government funded organisations such as the National Trust or VisitBritain.

Work experience and employability

Students studying the full time Extended Diploma will have the added benefit of undertaking 45 days industry work placement alongside the qualification.

What additional resources will I need?

We recommend that you buy a course textbook and you will need to supply your own notebooks and stationery. A variety of optional visits and trips are offered that support learning.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.

Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
