If you’re interested in working with young children, and you’re a very practical, patient and fun-loving person, then early years childcare courses will be the perfect fit for you.

Whether you want a basic introduction to caring for children, or a more advanced programme concentrating on areas such as early years education, or becoming a teaching assistant, there’s something for everyone in our early years childcare courses.

There is a strong element of practical work placement involved – because that’s the best way to understand the physical, social, spiritual, moral and emotional aspects of caring for children.

You’ll tackle topics such as supporting children’s play, child development, and the importance of promoting a healthy eating regime.

Some early years childcare programmes are tailored specifically to 16-18-year-old students who want to develop a role as a teaching assistant, early years educator, or progress to university.

Course Name	School	Assessment
Childcare Level 1	Early Years	Portfolio tasks.
Childcare Level 2	Early Years	You will be assessed via a unit-by-unit approach through a combination of assessment styles, giving you the opportunity to showcase your skills and apply your knowledge in an appropriate, work-related context. You will be assessed in your placement setting by your work placement coordinator and will be required to meet a variety of competencies. All units and internally assessed and marked by your tutors.
Childcare Level 3	Early Years	You will be assessed following a unit-by-unit approach through a combination of assessment styles, giving you the opportunity to showcase your skills and apply your knowledge in an appropriate, work-related context. You will be assessed in placement by your placement coordinator and will be required to show competency in a variety of areas. Units are mainly assessed internally by your tutors. There are also two externally marked controlled assessments; one in the first year and one in the second.
Foundation Degree in Early Years Services Level 5	Early Years	Work is assessed continually on an ongoing basis through the completion of assignment tasks. Deadlines for these assessments will be set at the beginning of each year. Typical methods of assessment include coursework, assignments and presentations.
Foundation Degree Supporting Children in Primary Education Level 5	Early Years	Work is assessed continually on an ongoing basis through the course. Deadlines for these assessments will be set at the beginning of each year. Typical methods of assessment include coursework, assignments and presentations.
