The College has held an Investor in Careers Award since 1996, in recognition of the comprehensive service we provide. We have a commitment to giving impartial, supportive and timely careers guidance to all students.

If you need help finding work, our careers advisers can help you in a variety of ways. They can guide you through any aspect of the employment process, from identifying which careers you'll enjoy and excel in and suggesting possible training, to giving you advice on writing your CV, attending interviews and applying for work placements.

As a student, you are entitled to careers education and guidance from tutors and course lecturers, programme and deputy team leaders and the careers adviser. Our careers adviser visits tutor groups, conducts individual interviews and works in close partnership with Careers South West advisers. Students have the opportunity to discuss their personal progression routes and receive support in making decisions appropriate to their needs. You will find a range of careers literature and software available in the Student Services areas and in the Learning Services Areas.

University is the exciting next step for many of our students. If you want to progress on to Higher Education, we'll help you get there.

Staff at Truro and Penwith College are very experienced in dealing with university applications and the vast majority of our students who go on to Higher Education achieve their first choice.

You will be guided through the application process by your Personal Tutor who will also help you with your personal statement and write your reference. Information about student loans and their repayment will also be provided, as well as guidance on applying for the bursaries and scholarships universities offer, and which do not have to be repaid.

A gap year is usually taken between finishing your course at the College and starting at university, allowing time for all kinds of possibilities before beginning Higher Education.

A gap year offers many opportunities. You might want to travel the world, gain work experience relevant to your new course, or take up paid employment to save for your time at university.

You can book a guidance interview with us for help with anything of the above. Interviews last for up to an hour. You may need further appointments, which can be made if necessary.
