Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills
Introduction
This course enables you to try your hand at a variety of different construction and building tasks. Choose from different courses, ranging from carpentry to painting to plumbing, and get a feel for whether a career in construction is right for you.
The course is suitable for individuals wanting an introduction to the construction industry, or for anyone interested in learning more about construction jobs like plumbing, painting and decorating, carpentry and plastering.
This course is delivered at our Hemel Hempstead campus.

Entry Criteria
You'll need a great work ethic, hand-eye coordination, a good attitude and attention to detail for a career that relies on taking pride in your work.
You will also be required to attend a Course Introduction Meeting

What will I study?
During the course, a range of the following may be covered:

Bricklaying and blocklaying – learn the basic skills required to joint brick and block work and be able to lay bricks and blocks.

Plaster finishes - develop the skills and knowledge required to apply plaster to external and internal walls. Learn to prepare a background surface and apply plaster coats.

Carpentry – learn the skills and knowledge required to produce carpentry work. Understand the resources required to produce panelled joinery product, be able to mark out timber to produce a panelled joinery product and produce a panelled joinery product.
There will be opportunities to improve your English and maths and take part in GAP work placements to develop the skills employers are looking for.

This qualification is an ideal way to get onto a more advanced qualification or apprenticeship that can lead to a career in construction - whether as a builder, plumber, painter or almost any other kind of construction worker.
