Course Overview

This qualification has been designed for learners who wish to achieve a technical qualification that is equivalent to A levels. There is one key difference between BTECs and A levels which is the knowledge, understanding and skills developed whilst studying on this course will be delivered in a work related context and will aid progression to further study and prepare you for the workplace. The qualification has been designed to offer you the opportunity to study a range of engineering topics that will help you decide which type of engineering you would like to specialise in in the future. The topics could include:

Health and safety
Communications for Engineering Technicians
Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
Mechanical Principles of Engineering Systems
Lean Production Systems
Machining Principles and Techniques
Fabrication Principles and Techniques
Electrical and Electronic Principles
Helicopter Principles
Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)

There will also be opportunities to have 1:1 support in the form of our tutorial package that further enhances the development of key skills necessary to achieving your full potential.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

Work experience is designed to give you a valuable opportunity to put your learning into practice. You will be expected to complete work experience and have the chance to work with an employer of your choosing. Work experience provides the following opportunities:

Improve your ability to get a job.

Develop the relevant knowledge and skills related to your course and future career aspirations.

Help you gain a greater understanding of what it’s like to work in your chosen industry.

Receive coaching and mentoring from a line manager.

Qualification Gained

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)

NOTE: This qualification will give you the opportunity to earn 168 UCAS points, equivalent to what you would gain by studying A levels for two years.

After The Course

You have several progression options which include the following:

Employment in an engineering company with the potential to earn up to £24,000, which could rise as high as £36,000 upon the completion of further training, qualifications and development.

Employment as an engineering apprentice with the potential to earn up to £28,000 during your apprenticeship.

Progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. Completion of this qualification gives you the potential to earn up to 168 UCAS points which is equivalent to A levels. Upon completion of this 'top-up' year you would have these additional progression opportunities:

Study an engineering related subject at a higher level either at our University Centre or a university of your choosing.

Employment as a degree engineering apprentice with the potential to earn up to £31,000 during your apprenticeship.

NOTE: 'Higher level' refers to HNC (level 4), HND (level 5) and Degree (level 6).

Our Lecturers

Our lecturers are passionate about engineering. Having all worked as engineers they will help you develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours enabling you to succeed in the world of engineering.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

You will be taught through a range of theory and practical activities, including talks from sector experts and industry related visits that will help you apply the knowledge and skills you have developed in a work related context

Assessment will consist of you completing practical activities and writing assignments.

NOTE: You will not have to sit any exams whilst studying on this qualification.

Course Expenses

There is a course fee related to this course.

The fee will pay for educational trips to shows and employers, a digital caliper and Zeus book.

NOTE: You will be expected to provide fire retardant Navy overalls and safety footwear. These items must meet the college specification that you will be provided with after enrolment.

Entry Requirements

Grade 5 GCSE in Maths, English, Science and two others.
