Course Overview

This one-year study programme is a fantastic introduction which will enable learners to gain a valuable insight into the travel and tourism industry. A range of guest speakers, educational trips in the UK and an annual residential trip abroad are arranged to supplement learning about the industry.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

Travel and Tourism students complete one week of work experience in year one and an industry placement in year two. Previous students have completed work experience at Premier Inn, Manor Hotel the Ritz, London and a number of National Trust properties including Stourhead House and Gardens and Montacute House and Gardens.

Qualification Gained

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Travel and Tourism

After The Course

Previous students have gone on to complete the Level 3 Extended Certificate or Foundation Diploma upon completion of this course. Others have gone on to gain full time employment or apprenticeships in a wide range of industry careers including Cabin Crew, Holiday Representative, Holiday Travel Advisor, Travel Consultants and Customer Service advisors

What Will I Learn

The units that you will study have been carefully selected to ensure that you gain a holistic understanding of the Travel and Tourism industry. You will study The World of Travel and Tourism and Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism.

English And Maths

Working in the travel and tourism industry requires strong English and Maths skills. For example, your English skills will be tested when communicating with customers or holiday makers, whereas, your ability to convert currency may be an excellent asset. All learners must have achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above in English, and learners that have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above in Mathswill be supported to achieve this during this course.

Our Lecturers

Our lecturer is an industry specialist having worked in various job roles in the industry.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

Lessons are delivered through a variety of methods. These consist of class activities, discussions, guest speakers, trips and many more.

Tutorials

You will receive weekly tutorials used for one to one support, progress updates, employability skills and workshops, taster sessions and guest speakers.

Course Expenses

£250* in year 1 to cover all UK trips and speakers during the year as well as the college resource fee. Trips include London Travel Market, British Airways Cabin Crew Training Day, Roman Baths, End of year activity, Guest Speakers

How Will I Be Assessed

Units are assessed through external examined assessments, written assignment work, presentations and role play activities.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including English

Required Experience

There is no previous experience required, however, a strong passion and interest to work in the Travel and Tourism industry is vital.
